WOR EVENTS NATIONAL HARE SCRAMBLES SOLO WILDCARD

JULY 2017 MAESHAFN

Report: Keith Williams

“The National Hare Scrambles series for Solos has now had 5 rounds and the all-important Wildcard round take place with a cracking 2.5hr race last weekend at WOR Events superb MAESHAFN track in Mold near Chester. The Track had been extensively graded and repaired from previous events and was in top condition. The weather was also kind too with sunny skies and nice temperatures for the riders after a damp start to the morning early on.

The Wildcard is a real bonus for the riders that are committed to the championship, they can use the event in two ways, one is use it as a replacement round for one they might have missed or secondly, they can use it to replace a round they may have scored less points in, all in all it really helped some riders as they improved their championship tally’s by taking part.

Connor Bolsover and Steve Hughes continued where they left off at last week’s 5th round event as they pushed one another for the duration of the 2.5hr Expert race. Both riders on CF Racing Husqvarna’s, the 300 2t of Bolsover just again pipping the 250 FC 4t of Hughes to the chequered flag with both riders on 18 laps and a 20 second advantage to Bolsover. Great racing indeed. The only other rider to match these two on 18 laps was Harry Eccles, back looking strong and fit on his KTM to take the 3rd placed Expert award. Chris Wagstaff topped the Expert Vets from Darren Skillin and Neil Parry in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Top Clubman honours on the day belonged to Rob Francom whom was going very well on the screaming little 125 Husky. Leon Dean was the only other Clubman to finish after Paul Engerlen and Sion Jones suffered unusual DNF’s.

Stacey Greensall and Martin Walker finished in the same order that they did back at Rd 5 with the advantage going to Greensall by 1minute and 30 seconds with both riders on 16laps each. Lyndon Connor made the move up from Sportsman Vets to Clubman and finished 3rd on 14 laps.

Over 50’s was again dominated by Colin Griffiths as he left Stephen Parry and Martin Wells chasing him down but matching his number of laps in the 2hr section of the race. Parry was 7 minutes adrift of Griffiths with Wells a further 1 minute 24 from Parry.

Liam Belfield won the Sportsman and is so ready to go to Clubman it stands out a mile with his quick and consistent lap times and class winning performances every week. In fact, 2nd and 3rd placed Sportsman riders, Mattias Ssvenson and Rhys Evans are looking good for Clubman too as they put in stonking rides. (All riders will move up after rd 8 and the series finishes)

Lee Sephton on the Sherco was top Sportsman Vet as he reclaimed his good form from earlier in the series. Runner Up was the always consistent and determined Mick Mills with Chris Duckworth not far off them and matching their 12 laps a piece at the sharp end of the results.

Haydn Tyrer took a great win in the Youth followed home by Frank Skillin and Haydn Rainford in the silver and bronze places.

Dan Griffiths took the Novice class win and is indeed another rider who’s results make him stand out in the class, Him and Runner Up Ashley Holt put in great shifts to show they will soon be Sportsman front runners. 3rd place went to the always consistent Max Eillidge with another good ride on his KTM.

The series now moves to round 6 at the club’s superb big mountain venue Clatter in Mid Wales on August 13th. WOR as always would like to send a massive thankyou out to all involved in running and supporting the events from the land owners through to the medics and not forgetting the hard-working caterers, staff and of course the riders for their continued support of the races”
